Wichit police investigate three electrical cable theft cases after arrest

Wichit police are investigating whether a 32-year-old man arrested on a theft warrant is linked to three reported electrical cable theft cases in Phuket.

Police arrested the man, identified only as Jirawat, on 11 October 2026 under a Phuket Provincial Court warrant issued on 6 July. The warrant alleges theft at night with accomplices, including the use of a vehicle to facilitate the offence, transport stolen property or evade arrest, according to police.

Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang disclosed the arrest on Tuesday, 13 October. Officers also found about one gramme of suspected crystal methamphetamine in a clear plastic bag, he said. The weight included the bag, and Jirawat faces a charge of illegal drug possession, according to Pol Col Somsak.

Pol Col Somsak said he had ordered the station’s investigation team to expedite inquiries into the three cable theft cases. Investigators are examining evidence to determine whether Jirawat was involved, whether there were accomplices and whether the cases are linked to other thefts.

Jirawat remains a suspect and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
