Traffic officer Pol Sgt Maj Apisit Thipsrinimit was injured when his police motorcycle struck a pickup stopped for a U-turn on Thep Anusorn Rd.
A Wichit police officer was injured when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck stopped to make a U-turn on Thep Anusorn Rd.
The crash occurred in front of the Baba House Hotel, about halfway along the road. Wichit Police received a report at 9:15am.
The injured rider was identified as Pol Sgt Maj Apisit Thipsrinimit, traffic police squad leader at Wichit Police Station. He was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where police said his condition was stable while he awaited a scan of his left leg.
Pickup driver Jirarat Khokkhao told police she had stopped in the middle of the road and was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before making a U-turn. Apisit then collided with the rear of the vehicle, according to her account.
The initial police investigation found that Apisit had been travelling to Wat Thepnimit School for duty when he struck the pickup on a slight bend where the vehicle was not immediately visible. Investigating officer Pol Lt Col Kraison Pakaree examined the scene and both vehicles.
Police have not yet confirmed which charges, if any, will be filed. The initial report also noted that Apisit had suffered an injury to his left leg in a traffic accident in 2023, but gave no further details.
