20-year-old driver arrested after fleeing Thalang checkpoint, police find gun in car
A 20-year-old man was arrested in Thalang after fleeing a police checkpoint, leading officers on a chase and allegedly carrying a homemade gun and ammunition in his vehicle.
Police in Phuket arrested a 20-year-old man after he fled a security checkpoint in Thalang District and was later found with a homemade firearm and ammunition in his vehicle.
Officers from Thalang Police Station were conducting a routine security checkpoint outside the station on Thepkrasattri Road when they signaled the driver, identified only as “Jit,” to stop. Police said he accelerated away instead of complying.
The chase continued toward Ton Sai Waterfall. During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle collided with a motorcycle, causing it to overturn. He then tried to evade officers by making several sharp turns, including driving through the entrance of Thalang Hospital, before losing control near the waterfall road.
Police then surrounded the vehicle and detained him.
A search of the car found a homemade firearm and ammunition. Police said the man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition without authorization, carrying a weapon in public without permission, and driving in a manner that endangered public safety.
