Air India Express unveils flying canvas

Air India Express unveiled ‘The Flying Canvas’, a Boeing 737-8 wrapped in contemporary art, in Delhi on April 1, 2026. The project, which highlights the airline’s commitment to celebrating India’s cultural heritage, features original work by artist Osheen Siva and marks the first full-aircraft contemporary art wrap for the airline. The initiative was announced as part of Air India Express’s ongoing cultural collaborations and carries significance for travelers to and from Phuket, a key international destination for the carrier.

Artist Collaboration and Cultural Motifs

Osheen Siva, an internationally recognized contemporary artist, created the artwork for the aircraft. The design features a Tamil figure symbolizing the passage of memory and heritage into the future, adorned with traditional motifs that represent lineage, identity, and continuity.

Siva’s work is known for blending elements of heritage with speculative futures, aligning with the airline’s aim to present culture as a living, evolving force.

Partnership with Kochi-Muziris Biennale

The Flying Canvas project stems from Air India Express’s multi-year partnership with the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, India’s largest international exhibition of contemporary art. The collaboration began with a bespoke tail art unveiled during the previous edition of the Biennale.

This year’s full-aircraft wrap deepens Air India Express’s engagement with India’s contemporary art ecosystem and extends its Tales of India campaign. The airline describes the initiative as transforming an aircraft into a moving cultural installation, furthering its reputation as one of the most culturally engaged airlines globally.
