American tourist found dead in Patong hotel room
Police are investigating after an American tourist was found dead in a Patong hotel room on 7 September, a day after his scheduled checkout.
An American tourist was found dead in his hotel room in Patong, Phuket, on 7 September after he went unseen for about five days and failed to check out on time, according to Patong police.
Police were alerted at 1.50pm after the station’s radio centre reported that the guest had not left his room and was one day overdue for checkout. Officers went to the hotel with its legal representative and entered using a spare key.
The man was found unclothed on the floor in front of the television. An initial examination found no wounds, while police reported no signs of a struggle or ransacking in the room.
Hotel records showed that he checked in on 1 September and was due to leave on 6 September. A housekeeper last saw him outside his room at about noon on 2 September.
Police are coordinating with the US Embassy to contact his relatives. Arrangements for religious rites will be made after formalities are completed, while officers continue investigating the cause of death.
