American wanted in Texas arrested by Phuket Immigration police

Phuket Immigration police have arrested a 48-year-old American wanted in Texas over a charge of assaulting a family member by strangulation, following an alert from US authorities.

The man, identified only as Brad, was detained outside his residence in Talad Nuea by a special operations team led by Acting Police Major Adisorn Boonchum of Phuket Immigration, according to the report. His permission to remain in Thailand had been revoked under the Immigration Act following a formal request from the US Embassy in Bangkok.

The Texas arrest warrant was issued on 26 May 2022. US authorities had also cancelled his passport, and investigators confirmed his identity after he tried to present a photocopy of the document.

Officers told him that his permission to stay in Thailand had been withdrawn and escorted him to Phuket Immigration headquarters, where he was informed of his legal rights. He is being held pending further legal proceedings and coordination with US authorities over extradition.
