Anutin welcomes Thaksin parole, declines to say if he will visit — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on May 11 he was pleased that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had been granted parole, but declined to say whether he would visit him at Chan Song La residence. The brief remark came before Anutin entered Government House for a national committee meeting tied to preparations for the 2026 World Bank-IMF annual meetings, a development being closely watched from Phuket to Bangkok.
Thaksin left prison at 7:40 a.m. and reported to probation office
Earlier that morning, Thaksin walked out of prison at 7:40 a.m. Family members, Pheu Thai figures and red-shirt supporters were there to receive him.
He then went to Bangkok Probation Office 1 in Bangkok Noi district to report in before returning home to Chan Song La.
Parole terms require monthly reporting and travel limits
The parole took effect on May 11, 2026, under conditions requiring him to live with a designated sponsor at an approved address. Any change of residence or sponsor must be submitted to probation officers in the original jurisdiction and approved in advance.
He must obey laws, regulations and official orders, hold lawful employment and notify probation officers whenever he changes jobs or workplaces. He is also required to follow probation guidance, join rehabilitation activities and report to probation officers once a month.
The conditions also bar him from leaving the province without permission except for important occasional business. He is forbidden from conduct deemed disreputable, from involvement with narcotics, firearms, ammunition or explosives, and from contacting non-relative detainees in prisons or other detention facilities.
He is also prohibited from associating with people who could lead him to reoffend.
