Three bombs exploded inside a Global House shopping centre in Pattani on Saturday evening after armed men forced customers and employees to evacuate, according to a report published on 31 August 2026. No civilian casualties were reported.
The incident took place at about 6:40 p.m. at a busy commercial intersection, the report said. Witnesses described armed men arriving on a motorcycle with a sidecar before ordering people to leave the warehouse area.
Bomb-disposal officers later found an improvised device concealed in a 50-kilogramme gas cylinder. The team spent about two hours dismantling the remaining explosives, while security forces established a perimeter around the site.
Security officials believe the attack was intended to disrupt peace talks due to take place in Malaysia. The talks, facilitated by Malaysia, have repeatedly stalled since they began in 2013. The attack occurred in Thailand’s southern border region, where a separatist conflict has continued since violence intensified in 2004.
