10 arrested in pre-dawn gambling raid in Kathu
Seven men and three women were arrested after officials raided an alleged illegal gambling gathering in Kathu early on July 23.
Ten people were arrested in a pre-dawn raid on an alleged illegal gambling operation in Kathu, Phuket, on July 23, according to the Mueang Phuket District Office.
The Phuket Provincial Administration Special Operations Unit and the Mueang Phuket District Office Special Operations Unit carried out the raid at about 2:15am following a complaint about illegal Hi-Lo and Nine-Card Poker gambling.
Officials located the gathering at Soi Khuean Bang Wad, Moo 7, Kathu, after being told that the operation had repeatedly changed locations to avoid detection. Some suspects fled when officers arrived, officials said.
The 10 arrested suspects comprised seven men and three women. Officers seized a deck of cards, gambling dice and B1,580 in cash.
The operation ended at about 6:30am. The suspects reportedly admitted participating in illegal Nine-Card Poker gambling, while the organisers were also charged with operating an illegal gambling venue.
All the suspects, who were not named, were handed over to investigators at Kathu Police Station for legal action.
