Australian driver charged after Kamala junction blockage and red-light violation

Kamala Police charged an Australian driver after a traffic confrontation at the Khok Yang intersection in Moo 3, Kamala, Phuket, with officers confirming the arrest of Wayne Edward at 7:45pm on Thursday, Apr 30. Police said he was fined for failing to stop at the designated stop line and for driving through a red light after video of the incident circulated online.

The footage shows the sequence began when the black Mustang stopped for a red signal but remained in the middle of a narrow street. That position blocked the junction and prevented a white car with a green light from entering.

Video shows blockage before confrontation escalated

With the route blocked, the white car stopped in the middle of the intersection and added to the obstruction. After waiting, a woman got out while speaking on her mobile phone and walked toward the Australian driver’s vehicle, leaving her own car stationary.

The Australian driver then moved slowly forward through the intersection and left the scene. Police later tracked him down after the clip spread online.

A urine test returned negative for drug use. The police report did not detail the initial obstruction by the Australian driver or the woman’s actions, and it did not say whether any action would be taken against the second driver.

Police said motorists must obey traffic laws and avoid blocking intersections, warning that violations will be prosecuted.
