BDI names five AI innovations for Phuket challenges
Five organisations have won BDI Hackathon 2026: PRO AT Phuket, with projects targeting traffic, waste, water management, vehicle compliance and tourism.
The Big Data Institute (Public Organization) has named five winning organisations in BDI Hackathon 2026: PRO AT Phuket, a competition focused on using artificial intelligence to address local challenges in Phuket.
The winners were selected from 19 participating organisations that presented their technologies at a Demo Day and awards ceremony at Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, according to BDI.
Tech Mint Co., Ltd. won the AI for Better Traffic category with “Phuket ThangRat”, a traffic-management platform integrated with the existing Phuket Eye CCTV network. BDI said the platform provides real-time traffic monitoring and predictive congestion alerts.
MakeSure (Thailand) Co., Ltd. won AI for Better Waste Management with “City Healing”, which forecasts waste accumulation, optimises collection routes and monitors bin capacity in real time.
Smart Jigsaw Limited Partnership won AI for Better Water Management with “AquaSync”. The platform analyses environmental data to forecast local water demand and provide early warnings of shortages or surpluses.
Charles Consulting Co., Ltd. won AI for Better Vehicle Compliance with Behavioral AI & Driver Risk-Scoring, a platform that analyses driving behaviour alongside Phuket Eye infrastructure to support road safety and law enforcement.
Quantum Leap Co., Ltd. won AI for Better Tourism with “Phuket LocalLens”, an Agentic AI platform intended to distribute visitors to secondary destinations, anticipate tourism-related risks and promote sustainable local economies.
The five challenge areas were selected from proposals submitted by local stakeholders, including the Phuket Provincial Police, the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation, the Phuket Chamber of Commerce, the Phuket Provincial Land Transport Office and the Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association.
Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, who presided over the closing ceremony, said the innovations should continue beyond the competition and progress towards pilot implementations supporting Phuket’s development as a Smart City and tourism destination.
BDI President Prof. Dr Tiranee Achalakul said the institute planned to work with Phuket Province in 2027 on decision-support dashboards and a data-access rights management system. BDI also plans to promote high-potential solutions from the hackathon for practical applications in urban management and sustainable tourism.
Each winning organisation will receive B100,000. The initiative will also move to a Pilot/Proof-of-Concept Grant phase, under which eligible winners can apply for up to B2 million per project. Up to two projects will be selected under a total budget of B4 million.
