British man arrested in Pattaya over Phuket contract killing case
British man arrested for alleged contract killing of Iraqi cartel member in Phuket 🚨 A British man has been arrested in Pattaya, Thailand, for his suspected involvement in the contract killing of an Iraqi cartel member…
Police arrested a 33-year-old British man in Pattaya on May 16 over the contract killing of a 24-year-old Swedish man in Phuket, authorities said. Investigators allege Mr Amir supplied weapons to a Colombian gunman in the February 7 daylight shooting of Ameer Mundher Mahmood as he cleaned his motorcycle outside a hotel.
The arrest was made at a luxury apartment in Pattaya under a warrant for aiding and abetting premeditated murder and for possessing and carrying firearms in a public place without permission. Officers found a knife and two phones beside the suspect’s bed during the raid, police said.
Police link shooting to international drug cartel conflict
Police Chief Natthasak Chaowanasai said the suspect denied involvement, claimed he knew nothing about guns and was uncooperative during questioning. Investigators said the killing stemmed from a conflict of interest within an international drug cartel rather than a personal dispute.
The inquiry concluded the attack was a planned assassination. Police said the public shooting caused panic in a busy area.
Authorities had already identified the alleged gunman as Fernando Estaid Guevara Sanchez, a Colombian national seen on CCTV firing more than once at the victim. He was later arrested near Phuket International Airport.
Investigators said Mr Amir had been lying low in Pattaya for several months before his arrest. He was then transferred to Patong Police Station for legal proceedings.
