UPDATE: British tourist Zakir Mahood found dead in Patong hotel room
Zakir Mahood, 41, was found dead in a Patong hotel room on 3 August after staff entered the room on his check-out day; police are awaiting post-mortem results.
A 41-year-old British tourist, identified as Zakir Mahood, was found dead in a hotel room in Patong, Phuket, on Monday, 3 August 2026.
Patong Police Station was notified at about 11.20am that a foreign man had been found inside Room 1414. Police were awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
The Thaiger reported that Mahood had been staying alone at the hotel since 24 July 2026 and was due to check out on 3 August. Hotel staff said the room was last cleaned on 27 July, after which a Do Not Disturb sign remained on the door.
According to the report, the hotel’s head housekeeper went to check on Mahood at around 11am but received no response. Staff then opened the room and found him dead inside. Initial examinations found no signs that the room had been ransacked or that a struggle had taken place.
A forensic doctor conducted a preliminary examination and estimated that Mahood had died 12 to 24 hours before he was found. The cause of death has not been established and will be confirmed after a full post-mortem examination.
The Thaiger, citing Matichon, reported that Mahood’s body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a detailed autopsy. The British Embassy was also notified so his relatives could be informed and arrangements made in accordance with official procedures.
