Cabinet approves 6.43 billion-baht Andaman Health Hub for Phuket — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Thailand’s Cabinet approved the Andaman Health Hub project on April 28, 2026, backing a 6.43 billion-baht plan led by Prince of Songkla University to expand healthcare capacity in Phuket and the wider Andaman region. The four-year project is scheduled to run from 2027 to 2030 and is intended to build a future-focused health city while addressing shortages of healthcare personnel.

Officials said the initiative is designed to improve medical services and reduce pressure caused by limited staffing. It also aims to strengthen Phuket’s role in medical and wellness travel.
Five-part plan centers on new Songklanagarind Hospital Phuket
The project includes five main components: an Andaman Health College, a Center for Thai Traditional Medicine, a Medical Technology Center, a Digital Dentistry Center and Songklanagarind Hospital Phuket.
The hospital is the largest single element of the plan, with a budget of 4.85 billion baht. Funding is set to come from 2.9 billion baht in government allocations and 1.93 billion baht from external sources.
PSU said the hospital will serve as the flagship facility for advanced care, supported by modern medical instruments and facilities. The wider project is also intended to cut the need to transfer patients with complex conditions to other regions.
The Cabinet-approved plan seeks to link education, medical technology and treatment infrastructure in one system. Songklanagarind Hospital Phuket is expected to open in 2030.
