Cement truck overturns and blocks traffic on Kata Hill

A cement mixer truck overturned on Kata Hill on Sunday, 6 September 2026, temporarily blocking traffic near the Khuan Sator curve on the route from Chalong to Kata.

Chalong Police said the truck was driven by Poowanart Kongsong, 35, who was travelling from Wichit to deliver cement in Karon. At about 11.30am to 1pm, on the uphill section on the Chalong side of the hill, the truck reportedly rolled backwards before overturning onto its side.

Chalong Police, traffic network personnel and officials from the Rawai and Chalong municipalities attended to manage traffic. Traffic later returned to normal and was flowing smoothly.

Police said they were handling the incident according to procedure. They had not said why the brakes reportedly failed or whether any charges were pending.
