Chalong police arrest Myanmar woman over alleged grocery store work-permit violation

Police in Chalong arrested a Myanmar woman accused of working outside the scope of her work permit at a local grocery store, according to Chalong police.

Police said the arrest followed residents’ reports that a foreign worker was handling sales and payments at the shop. Investigators then carried out an undercover purchase and observed the woman selling goods, accepting cash and giving change. Banknotes used in the operation were later found in her apron pocket.

The woman presented a passport and work permit that authorised her to work only as a “laborer”. Retail sales and cashier duties were not included. Police said she admitted carrying out sales work for a Thai national, who was not present during the raid.

She was charged with working outside the scope of her permit. Police also seized documents linked to the employer for further investigation and took the woman and the evidence into custody for legal proceedings.
