Darasamut Underpass to close overnight in Phuket for Smart City upgrade works
Phuket’s Darasamut Underpass will be shut nightly from 8pm to 6am for Smart City upgrade works, including a new electrical system, license plate recognition cameras and upgraded traffic signs.
Traffic through the Darasamut Underpass in Phuket will be closed nightly from 8pm to 6am while crews carry out works under the Smart City underpass improvement project.
According to the announcement, the project will remove the old lighting system and install a new electrical system equipped with a remote power outage notification system. Officials will also install license plate recognition cameras and upgrade existing traffic signs to internet-connected variable message signs.
The Phuket Highways Office said the work is part of efforts to establish a remote control and monitoring centre to improve the efficiency and safety of Phuket’s smart city tunnel infrastructure.
The office also noted that the Samkong Underpass is undergoing similar overnight closures for a full electrical system repair under the same Smart City upgrade programme. Those works began last Saturday, May 23, and are scheduled to continue nightly until Sunday, May 31, with the underpass closed each night from 8pm to 6am.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the underpasses during closure hours and use alternative routes where possible. The Phuket Highways Office apologised for the inconvenience.
