DDPM orders evacuation in Karon over Phuket landslide risk

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has urged residents near Patak sois 2, 4 and 6 in Karon, Phuket, to evacuate because heavy rain has increased the risk of landslides and mudflows.

The warning was issued on Thursday, 29 October 2026, for areas in Karon subdistrict, Mueang Phuket district. Residents have been told to move to safer locations or to evacuation centres established by Karon Municipality.

Temporary shelters have been designated at Ban Kata School and Wat Suwan Khirikhet, also known as Wat Karon.

The DDPM warned that continued rain could trigger landslides from steep terrain and threaten nearby homes. Residents were advised to take important documents, essential medication and other necessary belongings when leaving.

Authorities urged people to help children, older people, people with disabilities and bedridden patients who may need assistance evacuating. Residents should avoid foothills, waterways and steep slopes during heavy rain and should not return to high-risk areas until authorities confirm they are safe.

The DDPM and mobile network operators AIS, True and NT distributed the warning through the Cell Broadcast system to phones in the affected areas.

People needing assistance can contact local officials, community leaders or local administrative organisations. The DDPM emergency hotline is 1784. Phuket City Municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office can be reached on 076-211111 or 199, and the municipal hotline is 1132.
