DSI schedules third summons for Phuket MP over alleged nominee shareholding
Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation will summon Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworacharoen for a third time on 14 September over alleged involvement in a foreign-linked property company.
Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has scheduled a third summons for Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworacharoen on 14 September over alleged nominee shareholding in a company holding property and condominiums in Phuket with foreign nationals.
Justice Minister พล.ต.ท. รุทธพล เนาวรัตน์ said investigators had twice summoned the People’s Party MP, but he had not attended. If he fails to respond to the third summons, the DSI will proceed under provisions of the Special Investigation Act concerning refusal to comply with a summons, the minister said.
The minister said the summons was for the MP to provide information as a witness and that being in a parliamentary session would not prevent him from reporting. Investigators have collected contracts, other documents and land-related evidence, he said.
He also said authorities were expediting the investigation because some companies in the area had begun closing and some land was allegedly being offered for sale at unusually low prices. Investigators were tracking several additional plots, including land in northeastern Thailand, according to the minister.
