Earthquake monitoring authorities issued a warning for tremors near Thailand and Phuket on April 2, 2026, after several seismic events were recorded worldwide. Between midnight and 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, the Thai Earthquake Watch Division reported heightened seismic activity close to southern Thailand, with particular attention on the Phuket area.

Regional Seismic Events Near Phuket

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck the Nicobar Islands, India, at 03:14 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located 651 kilometers southwest of Phuket Town and a depth of 10 kilometers. No damage was reported in Phuket, but officials noted the proximity of the tremor to Thailand’s southern region.

Earlier in the week, a magnitude 2.1 quake occurred in Myanmar, 62 kilometers northwest of Pang Mapha district in Mae Hong Son province, and a 1.5 magnitude tremor was recorded in Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai. Both events were shallow, with depths of 10 kilometers.

On the same day, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake was registered in the Northern Molucca Sea, contributing to ongoing global seismic unrest. The Thai Earthquake Watch Division confirmed that several strong quakes were detected worldwide during the early hours of April 2.
