Fire at Patong hotel worksite contained after suspected fuse box blast
A fire at the LPK Hotel & Restaurant worksite in Patong was contained on Wednesday, with no injuries reported and damage largely limited to the electrical system.
A fire at the LPK Hotel & Restaurant in Soi Bangla, Patong, was brought under control on Wednesday after smoke filled the renovation site, police said.
Patong Police said they received a report of the fire at 4:54pm and dispatched patrol officers, investigators and the duty investigating officer to the scene. When they arrived, they found the building, which is undergoing renovations, filled with smoke following the blaze.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread further. No injuries were reported.
Police said the damage was minor and was largely confined to the building’s electrical system.
Witnesses told officers that strong winds and rain had affected the area shortly before the incident. They said they heard an explosion from a fuse box inside the building before smoke began filling the premises and a fire then broke out.
Investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of the blaze. Police said the Phuket Forensic Science Division has been notified and will carry out a detailed examination of the scene as part of the investigation.
The incident was reported by Patong Police under the supervision of Patong Police Superintendent Col Korakrit Khanthakrue.
