Phuket police are investigating after a firearms cache was found in a Patong self-storage locker rented by a Swedish national, according to authorities. Officers from Patong Police Station were called to Mespace Self Storage Patong, inside a major shopping center on Rat-U-Thit 200 Year Road, at around noon on May 13, 2026, after staff opened a unit tied to more than four months of unpaid rent and found weapons and ammunition.
The locker, numbered 2184, was rented under the name Mr. Elmi, police said. Company representatives told officers they opened the unit after 120 days without payment and repeated failed attempts to contact the tenant.
Weapons seized as police trace ownership
Investigators found five pistols in the locker: four Glock 9mm handguns and one CZ pistol. They also recovered two boxes of 9mm cartridges, with 50 rounds in each box, for a total of 100 rounds.
Police said all of the firearms had serial numbers. The guns and ammunition were seized as evidence.
Authorities are now checking the registration details of the weapons and whether they were legally owned. The inquiry is also examining where the firearms came from, why they were stored there, whether any laws were broken, and whether the renter is still in Thailand.
