Heavy rain caused flash flooding across parts of Phuket on 2 November, with Patong’s Na Nai community among the worst affected.
The downpour, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, lasted from about 6pm to 8pm, according to The Thaiger. Runoff from the 50-Year Mountain Range overwhelmed drainage systems in Patong, flooding Na Nai Soi 8 and nearby roads and residential areas.
Strong currents prevented cars and motorbikes from passing, while residents and tourists moved belongings to higher ground. Flooding was also reported on Siriraj Road near Simon Cabaret and in Kamala, where a lane beside Phuket Fantasea was inundated.
In Mueang Phuket district, water accumulated along Thepkrasattri Road near Ban Sapam and Robinson Thalang, and on Pracha Uthit 1 Road near the Phaniang branch of Super Cheap. Ban Kuku, Sam Kong and parts of Ratsada were also affected.
Patong Municipality sent patrol teams to inspect affected areas, assist residents and manage traffic and other impacts. Water levels gradually receded after the rain stopped.
The flooding renewed concerns among Na Nai residents, who have experienced similar incidents before. During an earlier flood, water entered an underground car park and submerged vehicles, the report said.
A hotel caretaker in Soi Na Nai said staff had stacked sandbags more than two metres high at the entrance and were monitoring conditions around the clock. Residents urged agencies to improve drainage systems and watercourses from Khao 50 Pi to reduce the risk of repeated flooding.
