Foreign man detained after fight at Patong restaurant in Phuket

Patong police took a foreign man into custody on April 26 after a fight at a restaurant in Patong, Phuket, where he had caused a disturbance before clashing with the manager. Video of the incident spread on Facebook, while police said the case remains under investigation and legal proceedings will follow.

The man’s nationality has not been released. Footage showed him walking in and out of a hot pot restaurant multiple times before the confrontation escalated.

Witness video shows repeated entries before confrontation

A witness who posted clips on Facebook under the name Sirinthip Phoosuwan said the man first approached nearby diners and asked, “Open?” Staff then became alert after he repeatedly entered and left the restaurant.

Sirinthip said the video captured only part of what happened and not the full sequence leading to the altercation. Details of the events immediately before the fight remain unclear.

Allegations inside restaurant and police response

Sources cited in the report said the man was harassing and assaulting customers inside the premises. The restaurant manager, seen in the footage wearing a white shirt, intervened and struck the man, who cried out as customers and staff moved away.

Officers from Patong Police Station were called to the restaurant, removed the man from the premises and took him to the station.

The report also noted another restaurant case in Rayong in March, where CCTV showed a customer smashing glasses, kicking a table and damaging property after complaining about fried rice. A staff member was cut by broken glass, and the owner said charges would be filed.

In a separate Patong case during Songkran in April, a group of foreigners was arrested after video showed them forcing open a van door and throwing water at the driver. Further footage showed them harassing motorists, blocking roads and pouring shampoo on a woman’s hair without consent, and they were charged with causing a public nuisance and obstructing traffic.
