Foreign visitors and expatriates cannot legally own or possess firearms in Thailand, but may use weapons at licensed Phuket shooting ranges under supervision.
Foreigners in Phuket may legally handle firearms only at licensed shooting ranges, where weapons, ammunition and supervision are provided, according to The Thaiger.
The report says tourists can use a selection of handguns and rifles at commercial ranges in Phuket, with some venues also offering heavier weapons. No firearms licence is required for range use, provided shooting takes place under the range’s supervision.
Thailand’s firearms law does not provide a route for non-Thai nationals to obtain a civilian firearms licence, the report says. Foreigners who bring weapons into the country, including firearms legally owned in their home country, may face arrest and prosecution. Reported consequences include up to 10 years in prison, possible deportation and a permanent ban on re-entering Thailand.
The report also warns that air guns and BB guns above a specified power threshold are regulated under the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Fireworks Act. Realistic-looking toy guns may also be restricted if carried in public.
