Four European tourists arrested over alleged cannabis smuggling at Phuket airport
More than 30kg of cannabis, valued at nearly B2.6 million, was reportedly found in checked luggage bound for Paris.
Four European tourists were arrested at an international airport in Phuket after customs officers reportedly found more than 30 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in their checked luggage.
According to a report published on Instagram, officers discovered vacuum-sealed bags containing cannabis buds and processed marijuana. The haul was valued at nearly B2.6 million and was allegedly destined for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.
The report said local police charged the suspects under the Customs Act, the Narcotics Code and Thai laws regulating herbal products. Thailand removed marijuana from its narcotics list in 2022, but the report said restrictions on exporting cannabis remain in force.
