Four foreign tourists arrested with 33.6kg of cannabis at Phuket airport
Customs officers arrested four foreign tourists at Phuket International Airport after allegedly finding more than 33.6kg of cannabis in their luggage before departure.
Four foreign tourists were arrested at Phuket International Airport on 28 July after customs officers allegedly found more than 33.6 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in their luggage before they were due to leave Thailand.
The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Swiss national Sean Cassidy Buzzi, 18-year-old French national Shaina Myriam Khadija El Gharib, 18-year-old Swiss national Marcus Frimpong and 26-year-old French national Alassane Justin Luciano Ahmada Djae.
Customs officials said they seized more than 33.6 kilogrammes of cannabis flowers and processed cannabis from the suitcases. They said all four suspects admitted during questioning that the luggage and cannabis belonged to them.
The suspects were charged with attempting to export goods from Thailand without completing customs procedures, according to customs officials. They were handed over, along with the seized cannabis, to investigators at Sakhu Police Station for legal proceedings.
The arrests follow several other alleged cannabis-smuggling cases at Phuket International Airport this month. On 9 July, customs officers allegedly found 32.1 kilogrammes of cannabis flower in the luggage of a Thai woman and a Filipina as they attempted to leave Thailand.
A Russian man was arrested on 8 July after officials allegedly found more than 17 kilogrammes of cannabis flowers and cannabis resin in his luggage. A Belgian woman was arrested on 7 July after officials allegedly found more than 31 kilogrammes of cannabis during a departure inspection.
Earlier, on 1 July, two Uzbek nationals were arrested after customs officers allegedly found more than 26 kilogrammes of cannabis products concealed in their luggage before their departure.
