German tourist missing after being swept out to sea at Phuket’s Freedom Beach

A 30-year-old German tourist was missing and feared drowned after being swept out to sea at Freedom Beach in Phuket, Karon Police said on 11 August 2026.

Police received a report at about 3:48pm. The man had been swimming with a 28-year-old German woman when waves carried both of them out to sea, according to police.

Lifeguards rescued the woman but were unable to find the man. The search continued, and police formally recorded him as missing.

The man had been staying at a resort in Nai Harn, where he checked in on 5 August and was due to check out on 11 August. Investigating officer Pol Lt Col Charas Lempapan of Karon Police confirmed that the search was continuing.
