Government co-payment share to rise to 60%
Authorities are now working on details and timing of the “Thai Help Thai Plus” programme to ease citizens’ financial burden, Mr Paradorn said yesterday (Apr 23).
The government will increase its co-payment share to 60% under the new “Thai Help Thai Plus” programme set to launch in 2026, officials announced yesterday in Phuket. The revised scheme aims to ease financial pressure on citizens, with eligibility remaining limited to those aged 18 and above.
Programme Structure and Funding
Beneficiaries will use their welfare cards to access discounted goods at participating stores, according to officials. The government’s contribution will be disbursed in phases, though the exact timeline has not been finalised.
Funding for the initiative may draw from the central budget and a budget reallocation bill expected in June, the minister said. The total number of participants will depend on available funding.
Previous Scheme Performance and Payment Details
The earlier Khon La Khrueng Plus programme offered between B2,000 and B2,400 per person, with a daily spending cap of B200 under a 50:50 co-payment arrangement. Welfare cardholders also received a B1,700 top-up in addition to their B300 monthly allowance.
More than 9.2 million people fully used their benefits before the scheme ended on December 31, officials reported. Total spending under the previous scheme reached B84.2 billion, according to the Ministry of Finance.
