Heavy rain and rough seas forecast for Phuket and upper Andaman
Thunderstorms are forecast across much of Phuket and nearby provinces, with waves reaching more than three metres during storms.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Phuket and other parts of Thailand’s southern west coast on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as a strong south-westerly monsoon affects the region.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecast thunderstorms across 60% of the southern west-coast area, mainly in Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun. People in affected areas were advised to remain alert to hazards from heavy and accumulated rainfall.
From Phuket northwards, south-westerly winds are expected to reach 20–40 kilometres per hour. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are forecast at two to three metres and could exceed three metres during thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman should remain ashore, while mariners were advised to avoid sailing through thunderstorms.
The forecast covers the 24-hour period from 6am on Wednesday to 6am on Thursday, August 27. Bangkok is also expected to see afternoon and evening thunderstorms across 40% of the area, while the East has the country’s widest forecast coverage at 60%.
