Indian Man Arrested on Koh Phangan for Visa Overstay, Drug Offenses After Firearms Videos Surface
Police on Koh Phangan arrested a 33-year-old Indian man on visa overstay and drug charges after online videos showed him firing firearms, authorities said.
Police on Koh Phangan have arrested a 33-year-old Indian national after videos appeared online showing him firing handguns and rifles, according to authorities.
The suspect, identified only as Mr. Shabeel, was detained during a coordinated operation targeting foreign nationals involved in illegal activities. Authorities said he was charged with overstaying his visa and with multiple drug offenses.
Police said officers seized methamphetamine and ketamine packaged for sale, as well as drug paraphernalia hidden in his clothing. Investigators also found digital evidence on his mobile phone, including images of drug menus with prices that authorities said were intended for distribution at local parties.
The arrest followed weeks of surveillance after residents reported suspicious activity, including frequent gunfire near his residence and alleged drug sales in Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. Police said they found spent shell casings and shooting targets at the property.
Authorities said Shabeel tried to flee during the operation but was quickly subdued. Another Thai national, identified only as Mr. Apidet, was also detained with a firearm and a small quantity of narcotics.
