A group of Indian tourists is accused of assaulting a Thai man in Phuket early on May 12 after a confrontation over a man sitting on the bonnet of a parked car in Patong, police said. The incident happened near the end of Bangla Road at about 4.30am, and officers received an assault report about 20 minutes later.
Dispute began at parked Toyota near noodle stall
Police identified two of the accused as 37-year-old Indian national Sandeep Kumar Sunil and 39-year-old Mohammad Ajaz. Two Indian women were also involved, according to investigators.
The group had been waiting for a ride booked through an application to return to their accommodation. Police said Sandeep sat on the bonnet of a grey Toyota parked near a noodle stall owned by 65-year-old Sawai Moonklab.
Sawai warned him not to sit on the vehicle because it could leave dents or cause damage. Police said Sandeep, who was allegedly drunk, became angry after the warning and pushed Sawai.
Bystander injured, police review CCTV footage
A 44-year-old bystander, Thanakorn Maneechai, intervened after seeing the argument and tried to stop it from escalating. Police said he was then assaulted by Sandeep, Mohammad Ajaz and the two women, and suffered injuries.
Thanakorn was taken to Patong Hospital for treatment. After the confrontation, both sides went to Patong Police Station to file complaints and discuss the case, according to Amarin TV.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning those involved before deciding on legal action. If charges are filed, the case could proceed under Sections 295 and 296 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, and police said additional offences linked to public disorder or intoxication could also be considered.
In a separate Phuket case, an Indian man remains at large after allegedly attacking a Thai transwoman in her rented room and stealing 10,000 baht in cash.
