Jordanian tourist and barber shop employee clash over extra charge in Patong

A dispute over an extra charge for hair services became physical between a Jordanian tourist and a barber shop employee in Patong, Phuket, on 31 August, according to Patong Police.

Police responding to a report near the end of Soi Bangla found the tourist and the employee grappling. An initial police inquiry found that they had agreed on a haircut price of B700, but that additional services led to a higher bill.

The tourist reportedly attempted to leave after offering only the original B700. The employee followed and asked him to pay the remaining amount, after which the disagreement turned physical. The employee’s glasses were reportedly damaged during the confrontation.

A social media post had initially described the foreign tourist as Israeli and claimed he refused to pay for a haircut before punching the barber. Police later established that he was Jordanian.

Police brought the two sides together to resolve the dispute. The tourist agreed to compensate the employee for the damaged glasses, and neither side chose to pursue further action.
