Residents and hotel guests in Phuket reported brief shaking after an earthquake struck off northern Sumatra on 22 July.
Residents in parts of Phuket felt brief tremors on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the northern coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, according to The Phuket Express.
The earthquake occurred at 11:18am local time at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres. Its epicentre was about 381 kilometres south-west of Satun province.
Office workers on the fourth floor of a building in Talad Yai, Phuket Town, reported noticeable vibrations, while light fixtures swayed. In Patong, guests and staff on the eighth floor of a mid-rise hotel felt the building move for about two seconds.
No damage or injuries were reported in Thailand. Authorities continued to monitor the situation, and no tsunami warning was issued.
