Mai Khao holds 20th annual Mawlid fair
The three-day fair in Mai Khao marked Hijri year 1448 with religious activities, youth performances and community awards.
Mai Khao held its 20th annual Mawlid fair from 4 to 6 September to mark Hijri year 1448, with Phuket Vice Governor Romdon Hayiawae presiding over the opening ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by Dr Komol Dumlak, chairman of the Phuket Provincial Islamic Committee; Phuket MP Orathai Kerdsap; Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation Deputy President Anupap Wechwanichsanong; Mai Khao Tambon Administrative Organisation President Sarawut Srisakukam; and Imam Danai Thongyon, president of the Mai Khao Subdistrict Mosque Relations Club.
Organisers said the fair was held in response to the needs of Mai Khao’s Muslim community and provided opportunities to learn about Islamic history and teachings, as well as the life and ethics of the Prophet Muhammad. They said it also aimed to strengthen relationships among residents and promote understanding of Islam among people from different religious backgrounds.
Activities included a Mawlid an-Nabi ceremony, religious lectures and study sessions, and stage performances by children and young people. Honorary plaques were presented to people recognised for their contributions to society, along with outstanding teachers for 2026.
The event received B700,000 in funding from the Mai Khao OrBorTor. Organisers said the fair supported the local economy and cultural tourism while helping preserve Mai Khao’s religious and cultural traditions. It was organised with the Mai Khao OrBorTor, the Mai Khao Subdistrict Mosque Relations Club, the Muslimah group, government agencies and other community organisations.
