Moroccan tourist injured after motorcycle crashes into taxi in Patong

A 24-year-old Moroccan tourist suffered a facial laceration after his motorcycle lost traction on a rain-slicked road in Patong and collided with an oncoming taxi at about 5:49am.

The tourist was identified as Chait Mohammed. The crash occurred on Soi Nanai 8 and was captured on the taxi’s dashcam. Footage later circulated widely after being shared by the Facebook page Phuket Mai Khoei Lap.

The video showed the motorcycle skidding into the path of the taxi. The driver, 26-year-old Phattharaphon Sornphan, slowed but could not stop before the collision. The motorcycle continued sliding and struck a roadside power pole.

Rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation’s Patong unit treated both men at the scene and took them to Patong Hospital. Sornphan reportedly suffered abdominal tightness and an abrasion to his left leg. Both men remained conscious after the crash.

Police urged motorists, particularly motorcyclists, to reduce speed and allow more stopping distance on wet roads, especially on downhill sections and curves.
