Myanmar man found dead in Rawai workers’ camp

A 28-year-old Myanmar man was found dead inside a workers’ camp in Rawai, and police said no signs of assault or struggle were found at the scene.

Chalong Police were notified at about 5:30pm and went to Room 5 of a workers’ camp in Moo 2, Rawai. Investigating officer Lt Col Kanen Somrak attended with a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Police identified the deceased as Mr Win Naing, 28, a Myanmar national. According to the police report, he was found sitting on a plastic water tank after allegedly hanging himself with an electrical wire tied to a metal beam inside his room.

Workers’ camp caretaker Suriya Sittisri told police that Mr Win had worked painting boats and had lived at the camp for about one year. He said Mr Win had not been working for about three weeks and was last seen at about 1pm on Tuesday, May 26, complaining of back and stomach pain.

Mr Win was discovered dead at about 5pm yesterday. The forensic doctor estimated he had been dead for at least 30 hours before the body was found.

After the post-mortem examination, the body was released to relatives for traditional funeral rites.

The death came two days after another Myanmar worker was found hanged at a construction site in Chalong. In that case, police said 37-year-old Myanmar national Mr Nan Oo was found dead at the Chanakan Construction Project site in Soi Na Yai on Monday morning, May 25, with no signs of foul play reported.
