Myanmar worker found hanged at Chalong construction site

A 37-year-old Myanmar worker was found hanged at a construction site in Chalong on Thursday morning, police said.

Police were called to the Chanakan Construction Project site in Soi Na Yai at about 7am after the man’s employer reported that a worker had been found hanging there.

Investigating officer Lt Col Arthit Thonganan of Chalong Police arrived with a forensic doctor and rescue workers and found the body of the man, identified as Mr Nan Oo, a Myanmar national. Police said he had hanged himself from a construction beam high above the ground at the site.

Scaffolding and a ladder were found nearby, and officers reported there were no signs of assault or struggle.

Kyaw Htay, a Myanmar national and site supervisor who discovered the body, told police that Mr Nan Oo had worked at the construction site for more than 10 years. He said Mr Nan Oo had travelled alone to Thailand for work while his family remained in Myanmar.

Mr Kyaw Htay said he was unaware of any recent personal stress, but said Mr Nan Oo had previously expressed a wish to return home to Myanmar.

The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination and procedures.

Chalong Police Superintendent Col Surasak Jaidee said officers were continuing their investigation, though initial findings indicated no foul play.
