A motorcycle taxi driver allegedly threatened an app-based rider with a knife at the Sai Nam Yen intersection on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road in Patong at about 3:10 pm.
Dashcam footage circulated on social media shows tourists getting onto the app-based driver's motorbike before another motorcycle taxi driver approaches from behind carrying a long knife. The app-based driver then rides away, while the motorcycle taxi driver points the knife and swings it in the direction of the departing motorbike.
The footage does not capture what the two drivers said, and does not clearly show the knife being pointed at the app-based driver's face. An account accompanying the video said the app-based driver had stopped to collect passengers who booked through an app at a pickup point also used by local motorcycle taxi drivers.
The footage prompted online calls for police and relevant authorities to establish what happened and determine whether any offence was committed. The incident awaits verification by police and other authorities.
