Patong police detain couple after indecent act on Phuket tuk-tuk — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Patong police on May 5 detained a foreign man and woman after a video showed an indecent act on a tuk-tuk on Thaweewong Road in Phuket. Officers tracked down the couple after the clip spread on social media and drew heavy criticism over conduct seen as inappropriate in a major tourism area.
The pair were taken to Patong Police Station for legal action, police said.
Social media clip triggered police investigation
The investigation was ordered by Patong Police chief Pol Col Korkrit Khankhrua and led by deputy investigation chief Pol Lt Col Suchart Chumphu Saeng and deputy inspector Pol Lt Somporn Srisaard.
Media reports circulated the clip with a caption saying foreign tourists were performing a sexual act on a tuk-tuk in central Patong without regard for onlookers. Police said the footage damaged Phuket’s tourism image and prompted an urgent effort to identify the people shown.
Officers said the case involved 2 foreign tourists, 1 man and 1 woman.
Police also issued a warning urging visitors to respect Thai law and local culture, and said they would act seriously against behaviour that harms the province’s tourism reputation.
