Patong woman arrested over alleged online scam mule accounts

Police arrested a Patong woman on May 18 in Phuket over alleged online scam mule accounts linked to Facebook shopping fraud, the Central Investigation Bureau said. Officers from the CIB and Crime Suppression Division took Ms Katchamon into custody in the parking area of a hotel on Thaweewong Rd on charges including public fraud and importing false information into a computer system.

Victims' transfers traced to accounts in multiple fraud cases

The case began after complainants said they transferred money to buy goods advertised on Facebook but never received the products. Investigators said the payments were traced to bank accounts allegedly held by Ms Katchamon.

Police described the accounts as mule accounts used by fraudsters to receive transferred funds. Investigators said the same accounts appeared in multiple cases, with total reported losses of more than B100,000.

Three court warrants issued in Phuket, Chiang Mai and Thanyaburi

Police said the investigation led courts in three provinces to issue warrants for the suspect. Those were Phuket Provincial Court warrant No. 1204/2568 dated Dec 23, 2025; Chiang Mai Provincial Court warrant No. J.1943/2568 dated Oct 20, 2025; and Thanyaburi Provincial Court warrant No. 113/2569 dated Feb 6, 2026.

Officers moved in after receiving information that she would be at the Patong hotel car park. Police said she was informed of the warrants before being taken into custody and handed over to investigators at Phuket City Police Station for legal action.

During initial questioning, Ms Katchamon denied the allegations and said she had only lent the bank accounts to a friend without knowing they would be used in criminal activity. The operation was carried out under the direction of senior CIB and CSD officers, including CIB Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaowanasai and Crime Suppression Division Commander Pol Maj Gen Pattanasak Bubphasuwan.
