Phang Nga deploys emergency resources after widespread flooding
Flooding after intense rainfall affected several areas of Phang Nga, prompting evacuations, boat deployments and coordinated relief efforts.
Phang Nga authorities deployed boats and emergency resources after intense rainfall caused flooding across several areas, with residents evacuated from affected homes and temporary shelter arranged on 18 and 19 September 2026.
According to provincial authorities, runoff from Kapong district caused the Takua Pa canal to overflow at about 7.30pm on 18 September in Khok Khian subdistrict, Takua Pa district. Floodwater entered homes and agricultural plots in villages 1, 2 and 7, forcing some residents to move their belongings upstairs.
About 60 people took temporary shelter at Ban Bang Krak Nok Mosque, where the Khok Khian Subdistrict Administrative Organisation provided food and drinking water. Local authorities requested rubber boats the following morning to assist with evacuations and the movement of essential belongings. By 6.20am on 19 September, the Phang Nga Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office had deployed motorised rubber boats.
Flooding also affected parts of Bang Sai subdistrict, Tam Tua subdistrict and additional sections of Khok Khian. Officials described the rainfall as the most intense in 11 years. Main highways remained open, although flooding disrupted some secondary roads connecting villages.
Two open-hull rescue boats were also sent to support relief operations. Governor Phairat Phetchuan ordered relevant agencies to monitor conditions and provide assistance, assigning Deputy Governor Buncha Thanuin to coordinate on the ground with local officials and affected communities.
Conditions in Kapong and Khura Buri districts had largely returned to normal, but provincial authorities said they were continuing to monitor the situation for further heavy rain.
