Phuket Airport Immigration launches Automatic Border Control system

Phuket International Airport Immigration officially introduced its Automatic Border Control, or ABC, system on June 13, 2026, in a move aimed at modernizing passenger processing.

The new system allows travelers to complete passport checks themselves using biometric technology together with electronic passports, or E-Passports. Immigration authorities said the system is intended to reduce waiting times and ease congestion at immigration checkpoints.

According to the announcement, the service is available to eligible passengers holding valid E-Passports, provided they meet the specified criteria. It is not available to travelers who do not hold E-Passports or to passengers who are subject to special screening procedures.

Authorities said the launch of the ABC system reflects a commitment to improving convenience, speed and efficiency in the immigration process. They also said the system is meant to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers passing through Phuket International Airport.

The rollout marks a notable operational change at one of Phuket’s main transport gateways, with immigration processing shifting in part toward self-service clearance for qualifying travelers. The announcement did not provide additional details on passenger eligibility criteria beyond the requirement for a valid E-Passport and the exclusion of those undergoing special screening.
