Phuket airport international departure fee to rise to B1,120 in May 2026
The new Passenger Service Charge (PSC) rate for international departing passengers will apply at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai airports.
Airports of Thailand will raise the international Passenger Service Charge to B1,120 per departing passenger at Phuket and five other airports from May 8, 2026. The revised fee will apply at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai, while the domestic departure charge will remain B130.
AoT said the Civil Aviation Board approved the increase on Feb 20. President and CEO Paweena Jariyathitipong said the change complies with International Civil Aviation Organization standards on transparency, cost-effectiveness and non-discrimination.
Revenue earmarked for airport upgrades
AoT said the Passenger Service Charge is not a tax and is not intended to generate profit. The agency said the revenue will be used only for airport operations and infrastructure development across the six airports.
Projects cited by AoT include the Satellite Terminal 1 development at Suvarnabhumi Airport and upgrades to passenger facilities at Don Mueang Airport. The agency also pointed to the rollout of the Common Use Passenger Processing System, or CUPPS, to cut waiting times and streamline check-in.
Approval process and policy rationale
Paweena said the revised fee structure was implemented under the Air Navigation Act B.E. 2479 (1936) and related amendments. AoT said it consulted airlines and other stakeholders before the board approved the increase.
The agency said surveys of passengers and airlines found most travellers considered the revised fee appropriate and unlikely to affect travel decisions. Airlines also backed the adjustment while recommending that service improvements continue alongside the higher charge.
Paweena said the revised rates would support long-term investment, strengthen airport safety and service standards, and expand capacity for future passenger growth. She added that the move is part of a broader plan to position Thailand’s airports as sustainable regional aviation hubs and world-class gateways.
