Phuket Airport launches White Airport 2026 safety campaign
The campaign includes inspections of public transport vehicles and urine drug tests for drivers serving Phuket International Airport.
Phuket International Airport has launched its “White Airport 2026” campaign to improve transport safety and combat drug use among public transport operators.
The campaign was launched on Tuesday, July 21, at Gate 7 on the ground floor of the airport’s International Passenger Terminal. Airport General Manager Monchai Tanode presided over the event, which was attended by airport staff and executives, officers from the Phuket Tourist Police and Sakhu Police, the Phuket Land Transport Office, and representatives of taxi and other public transport operators.
The initiative includes inspections of buses and other public transport vehicles to check that they meet safety standards. Drivers are also undergoing urine drug tests to assess whether they are fit to carry passengers.
Monchai said the airport was committed to continually improving safety standards for passengers and visitors. He said the project aimed to improve traffic discipline, promote safe driving, reduce the risk of road accidents and combat drug use among operators serving the airport.
He described the campaign as a joint effort by government agencies and private-sector operators to create a safe, transparent and drug-free transport environment and strengthen Phuket Airport’s reputation as an international tourism gateway.
Officials have not disclosed whether any drivers tested positive or what action would be taken against drivers found to have illegal drugs in their systems.
