Phuket airport receives Level 2 carbon accreditation
Phuket International Airport has been awarded Level 2 carbon accreditation, recognising measured emissions reductions and an upgrade from Level 1.
Phuket International Airport has received Level 2 (Reduction) certification under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, an upgrade from Level 1 accreditation.
The certification recognises the airport’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through systematic carbon management. The announcement was made during the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly, Conference and Exhibition 2026, held from May 12-14 at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park.
Withawat Sudta, Director of Airfield Operations at Phuket International Airport, accepted the certificate on behalf of the airport.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme is an internationally recognised framework designed to help airports improve environmental sustainability through independently verified carbon management standards.
To achieve Level 2 certification, airports must go beyond the Level 1 requirement to map and report carbon emissions. They must also show measurable emissions reductions through structured management systems and reduction targets covering both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Airport officials said the accreditation reflects Phuket Airport’s commitment to becoming a low-carbon airport and aligns with wider aviation industry goals on sustainable development and future net-zero emissions.
The airport said it will continue environmental measures including improved energy management, more efficient use of resources, adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, and cooperation with public and private sector partners to strengthen its role as a socially and environmentally responsible international airport.
