Phuket approves 2026 Road Safety Fund plan to cut traffic accidents
The funding allocation was confirmed during a meeting of the provincial sub-committee tasked with reviewing applications for the Road Safety Fund, held at Phuket Provincial Hall this week.
Phuket this week confirmed its 2026 Road Safety Fund allocation during a provincial sub-committee meeting at Provincial Hall, where officials reviewed projects aimed at cutting traffic accidents. The budget will support initiatives intended to reduce injuries and deaths and strengthen road safety measures across Phuket during the 2026 fiscal year.
Vice Governor Adul Chuthong chaired the session, which was attended by Phuket Provincial Transport Officer Adcha Buachan, sub-committee members and representatives from agencies seeking support. Officials said the national fund backs projects focused on safer road use, public awareness and risk prevention, with participation from state agencies, schools and local organisations.
Funding rules focus on measurable accident reduction
The sub-committee also reviewed the criteria for applications seeking support from the fund. Officials said proposals must set clear objectives, show proven potential to reduce accidents, avoid duplicating work already handled by other agencies and include measurable outcomes.
That screening process will determine which projects move forward under the fund’s regulations. Approved projects are to be carried out across the 2026 fiscal year.
Proposals include youth training, data centre and district units
Projects presented for consideration included “Smart Kids, Smart Road Safety,” a programme intended to build traffic discipline among young people. Another proposal called for a provincial road accident data centre to support public health planning.
Other submissions included survival skills road safety training for students and the production of awareness materials aimed at residents and visitors. Agencies also proposed district-level road safety operational centres in Phuket Town, Thalang and Kathu.
Officials said the range of submissions reflected cooperation across multiple sectors on preventive road safety work aimed at reducing loss of life and property.
