Phuket authorities launch forest-encroachment operation at eight sites
A multi-agency operation is examining suspected forest and public-land encroachment in Cherng Talay, Kamala, Rawai and Patong.
Authorities in Phuket launched a multi-agency operation on 3 August 2026 to investigate suspected forest-land encroachment and commercial exploitation at eight high-risk sites across the island.
The operation covers areas in Cherng Talay, Kamala, Rawai and Patong. Personnel from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Phuket Provincial Police, the Central Investigation Bureau, administrative authorities and military units took part.
Officials assembled at the Phuket Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment at 9am before teams travelled to the designated locations. Deputy Governor Pol. Lt. Col. Khetarat Chansilp said aerial surveys had identified suspicious activity and that officials would verify the facts. He said legal action would be taken if encroachment on reserved forests, national parks or public land was confirmed.
Phatthapong Samittiphat, deputy director-general of the Royal Forest Department, said the operation builds on earlier enforcement at Nui Beach. Officials will examine forest reserves and land-ownership documents, with particular attention to Paradise Beach, where commercial operations by private investors have raised concerns, according to authorities.
Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum instructed officers to follow tactical and safety procedures during the inspections. Authorities have referred to the coordinated operation as the “Phuket Model”.
