Phuket City to install garbage traps in wastewater diversion channel
A steel grating will catch rubbish in wastewater diverted from communities near the Phuket City Care Center construction site before it reaches a treatment pond.
Phuket City plans to install a steel grating in a wastewater diversion channel to catch rubbish before it reaches a treatment pond, Mayor Suppachoke Laongphet said.
The municipality’s Engineering Department has completed excavating a ditch to divert wastewater from communities near the Phuket City Care Center construction site to a wastewater treatment facility. Suppachoke inspected the site with officials from the Engineering Department and Public Utilities Division to determine where the grating should be installed.
According to the mayor, the grating will trap waste carried by the wastewater and help prevent blockages. Collected rubbish will be removed regularly.
Suppachoke also urged residents in nearby communities not to dispose of rubbish in drainage channels, warning that blockages could cause water pollution.
The Phuket City Care Center, which is being developed at a cost of B2.1 million, is intended to provide an elderly care centre, a dialysis centre and an alternative medicine centre. Services at the alternative medicine centre are expected to include Thai massage, herbal compresses, postpartum care, herbal medicines, health advice and home care.
