Phuket forecast to see 1–2m waves as Tropical Storm Narra bypasses Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts southwesterly winds and waves of up to 2 metres south of Phuket, with higher waves possible during thunderstorms.
Phuket and areas farther south are forecast to experience southwesterly winds of 15–35 kilometres per hour and waves of 1–2 metres from 6am on Monday, 24 August 2026, to 6am on Tuesday, the Thai Meteorological Department said.
Waves could exceed 2 metres during thunderstorms. The department advised mariners in the Andaman Sea to proceed with caution and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea were advised to remain ashore.
Thunderstorms are expected across 30% of Thailand’s west-coast South, mainly in Ranong and Phang Nga. Heavy rain is also forecast in parts of the North, Central region and East, with warnings over possible flash floods, forest run-off and overflowing waterways.
Tropical Storm Narra is expected to make landfall in southern Guangxi, China, between 24 and 25 August. The department said the storm would not enter Thailand and was not expected to have a direct effect on the country’s weather.
